Baseball Observation

I saw everything I needed to in yesterday's Rangers season-opening game. Here's The Diner's official observations:

They got a quality start from their ace (which they'll get one of these on average about once every three games, so we can't waste 'em) and failed to hold the lead.

They struck out 10 times, despite never-before-seen plate discipline (9 batters went to full counts!).

Even when we get a lead, our middle relievers will be wildly inconsistent. Two...that's right, two...wild pitches (that both could've been passed balls).

An error lead to the loss of the lead. Failure to get a much-needed double play cost us the lead.

Marlon Byrd failed to get hits with runners in scoring position on two separate occasions and then failed in a bunt attempt to move runners along when the game was still in the balance. It's the little things, man. The little things that matter in baseball.

So, while you always want to avoid early-season knee-jerk reactions, I've seen enough to know that this team will win 75 games.

Tops. 75.

Another long season in Arlington.

Ugh.
