Cell Phones...Again

The Dallas areas of Highland Park and University Park have recently passed laws and giving out tickets for the crime of talking on your cell phone if you're in a school zone. Those that got tickets seem upset but everybody pretty much "gets it."

But, if you're asking me, the laws don't go far enough. I mean, the very reality that the laws got passed indicates that there's some significant degree of distraction in talking on your cell phone that you certainly don't want to hit a child in a crosswalk on their way to school. Excuse me...but if it's a distraction enough for a small child when you're going 20 m.p.h. then wouldn't it be a distraction if you're going 50 anywhere else? Or turning left with oncoming traffic? Or trying to find the parking space?

And, understanding that laws can't change hearts but can change behaviors...

...The Diner management advocates passage of laws that will allow the general public the vigilante use of taser technology for those using cell phones while:

...ignoring a clerk while you're checking out groceries or any other retail transaction.
...in a restaurant with friends or family and have a friendly chat with someone else.
...in the pastor's office with a problem and read off the grocery list to your spouse.
...in a movie theatre--texting or talking.

...patrons may now begin adding riders to my proposed legislation...
